Brie Larson to take Lessons In Chemistry with Apple TV+

January 24, 2021 by Gary Collinson

Deadline has revealed that Oscar-winner Brie Larson has signed on to executive produce and star in Lessons In Chemistry, an Apple TV+ drama from Erin Brokovich writer and Unbelievable co-creator Susannah Grant.

Adapted from the upcoming novel by Bonnie Garmus, Lessons In Chemistry is set in the 1960s and will see Larson portraying Elizabeth Zott, “whose dream of being a scientist is put on hold in a society deeming that women belong in the domestic sphere, not the professional one. When Elizabeth finds herself pregnant, alone and fired from her lab, she musters the ingenuity only a single mother has. She accepts a job as a host on a TV cooking show, and sets out to teach a nation of overlooked housewives — and the men who are suddenly listening — a lot more than recipes … all the while craving a return to her true love: science.”

Jason Bateman and Michael Costigan are executive producing Lessons In Chemistry through their Aggregate Films banner alongside Grant and Larson, while Apple has granted the project a straight-to-series order.

Larson was last seen in the legal drama Just Mercy, and next reprises her role as superhero Carol Danvers for the upcoming Marvel Studios sequel Captain Marvel II.
