Rumour: Aladdin’s Mena Massoud to play Rebels’ Ezra Bridger in Star Wars: Ahsoka

February 21, 2021 by Gary Collinson

Given the name-dropping of Grand Admiral Thrawn in ‘The Jedi’ episode of The Mandalorian season two, fans of the animated series Star Wars Rebels likely have a pretty good idea which direction the story is heading with Disney and Lucasfilm’s live-action Star Wars: Ahsoka spinoff.

The expectations are that the series will see Rosario Dawson’s Ahsoka continue her search for Thrawn, the Imperial warlord who served as the main villain in the later seasons of Rebels and – SPOILERS COMING UP – who at the show’s conclusion was hurtled through hyperspace along with Rebels’ young Jedi protagonist Ezra Bridger, their fates and whereabouts unknown.

Well, according to a rumour from Kessel Run Transmissions, it seems that Lucasfilm may have found its live-action Ezra Bridger for the Ahsoka show and other potential projects, with the YouTube channel reporting that Aladdin star Ezra Bridger has emerged as the top choice for the role and has already held talks, although he’s yet to enter into an official agreement.

As yet, there’s been no official word on the casting, nor has the report been corroborated by any of the trades. However, Massoud has previously expressed his interest in the role of Ezra on social media, and given his Disney connections thanks to Aladdin, it’s certainly not hard to believe he’s in the mix at the very least.
