Exclusive Interview – Liam Neeson, Micheál Richardson and James D’Arcy on Made in Italy

March 23, 2021 by Tom Beasley

Tom Beasley chats to Made in Italy writer-director James D’Arcy and his leading men Liam Neeson and Micheál Richardson…

In his new film Made in Italy, Liam Neeson doesn’t punch a single person in the face. Written and directed by actor James D’Arcy, it’s a gentle but poignant family drama in which Neeson stars alongside his son: Micheál Richardson. They portray a father and son who have been somewhat estranged since the tragic death of Neeson’s character’s wife in a car accident. It’s a story with echoes in reality, with Neeson losing his wife Natasha Richardson – Micheál’s mother – in 2009.

With the film set to premiere on Amazon Prime this week, Flickering Myth sat down with D’Arcy, Neeson and Richardson to talk about the movie’s idyllic setting, its real world resonance and whether Neeson will be back to punching goons in the face in the near future. Spoiler: he will be.

A heart-warming comedy, set in glorious Tuscany, about bohemian London artist Robert (Liam Neeson) who returns to Italy with his estranged son Jack (Micheál Richardson) to make a quick sale of the house they inherited from his late wife. Neither expects to find the once beautiful villa in such a state of disrepair. As Robert and Jack painstakingly restore the villa to its previous glory, father and son also start to mend their relationship. The future may now look quite different and surprise them both.

Made in Italy will launch exclusively on Amazon Prime Video from 26th March.
