National Treasure Disney+ TV series officially greenlit for 10 episodes with new cast, Mira Nair to direct

March 25, 2021 by Liam Waddington

Last year, producer Jerry Bruckheimer revealed that a National Treasure Disney+ TV series was currently in the works, and now, it is being reported that the project has been officially greenlit with a 10-episode order.

According to Deadline, the TV spinoff series will be directed by Mira Nair (Vanity Fair) with the films’ producer Jerry Bruckheimer and original writers Marianne and Cormac Wibberley returning to reimagine the action-adventure franchise. However, the series will feature a new cast and will follow Jess Morales, a twenty-year-old DREAMer who, with her diverse group of friends, set off on the adventure of a lifetime to uncover her mysterious family history and recover lost treasure. The series is currently without a release date.

However, the National Treasure is seemingly set to also continue the film franchise with Bruckheimer also previously stating that the long-awaited National Treasure 3 was in early development from director Jon Turtletaub and Bad Boys for Life writer Chris Bremner with the original cast expected to return.

Cage was joined in the cast of both films by Justin Bartha, Diane Kruger, Harvey Keitel, Armando Riesco and Jon Voight.
