Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon has officially started filming

April 20, 2021 by Liam Waddington

Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon, based on David Grann’s bestseller Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI, has officially begun production.

The Oklahoma Film + Music Office (OF+MO) and Apple Original Films (via Collider) announced that principal photography has officially started on Martin Scorsese’s latest feature film – which is debut on Apple TV+, however, no release date has been given as of yet.

Scorsese provided a statement for the beginning of production: “We are thrilled to finally start production on Killers of the Flower Moon in Oklahoma. To be able to tell this story on the land where these events took place is incredibly important and critical to allowing us to portray an accurate depiction of the time and people. We’re grateful to Apple, the Oklahoma Film and Music Office and The Osage Nation, especially all our Osage consultants and cultural advisors, as we prepare for this shoot. We’re excited to start working with our local cast and crew to bring this story to life on screen and immortalize a time in American history that should not be forgotten.”

Killers of the Flower Moon takes place in the 1920s and tells the story of one of the FBI’s first major investigations – the grisly murders of members of the Native American Osage Nation, whose land in Oklahoma sat above a large reserve of crude oil.
