Star Trek’s Michael Dorn teasing Worf return with cryptic tweet?

April 20, 2021 by Ricky Church

Starfleet will be regaining one of its most famous members as Michael Dorn, the actor who played Worf, cryptically announced he has been “summoned back into action”, though does not say how or where he might reprise his famous role.

Worf was first introduced in Star Trek: The Next Generation as a Klingon orphan who grew up on Earth and eventually joined Starfleet. He became the head of security on the Enterprise-D with Dorn starring in TNG for all seven seasons. He would later reprise his role become a leading character in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine from the fourth season on as Worf was transferred to the Federation outpost, playing a significant part in Starfleet’s brief war with the Klingons as well as the Dominion War. Dorn was also seen as Worf in all four of the TNG feature films with his last appearance in Star Trek: Nemesis.

The first thought that comes to mind is Dorn reprising Worf in the second season of Star Trek: Picard which follows his former Enterprise captain decades after the events of Nemesis. The show is currently filming the new season and LeVar Burton and Whoopi Goldberg are returning as TNG‘s Geordi LaForge and Guinan respectively. Another likely candidate is Dorn having a cameo on the animated series Star Trek: Lower Decks similar to Jonathan Frakes, Marina Sirtis and John de Lancie in the first season. However, Paramount has apparently shot down these possibilities down by saying however Dorn is returning, it is not for a Paramount+ series or film. That leaves the possibilities of a voice role in one of the many Star Trek games, or some promotion for a Star Trek-related product (note the inclusion of the #ad hashtag in his tweet):

Just got the news, being summoned back into action. Starfleet calls. #ad

— Michael Dorn (@akaWorf) April 19, 2021

SEE ALSO: Star Trek: Strange New Worlds will be “really episodic” and “very much adventure-of-the-week”

We’ll have to see if Paramount is simply playing coy with Dorn’s return or if he and Worf will appear through some other means.
