Netflix’s live-action Assassin’s Creed series lands Die Hard writer

June 15, 2021 by EJ Moreno

The Assassin’s Creed video game franchise has sold over 155 million copies to date. It’s not a shock that Netflix would want to tackle this long-running action-adventure series, even if its first film outing was a dud. The streamer is trying to make sure it lands a hit with their upcoming live-action series by nabbing a fan-favorite writer.

Variety reports that Jeb Stuart has joined the Assassin’s Creed Netflix series. Stuart is known for penning blockbusters like Die Hard, Another 48 Hrs., and The Fugitive. He recently created the Netflix series Vikings: Valhalla, a continuation of the History Channel series Vikings.

This upcoming series is part of a deal between Netflix and Ubisoft. The two companies have come together to develop content based on some of their best-selling video game franchises. The streamer recently announced that it had ordered anime series based on Far Cry and Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix. There’s also a Splinter Cell anime series in development as well.

Interestingly enough, the latest installment in the Assassin’s Creed franchise has focused around Vikings. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla was released in 2020 and was nominated for Best Action/Adventure at The Game Awards 2020. Could this series head straight for this stories given Stuart’s history with this material?
