Sony’s Marvel series Silk adds Watchmen producer as showrunner

June 20, 2021 by Gary Collinson

Last year it was announced that Sony Pictures Television is bringing the Marvel character Cindy Moon to the small screen with a live-action Silk TV series, and now Deadline is reporting that Watchmen executive producer Tom Spezialy has joined the project as showrunner.

Silk is one of the first Marvel TV projects in development at Sony, with the studio having set Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’s Phil Lord and Chris Miller to oversee a slate of television adaptations based upon Sony Pictures’ Universe of Marvel Characters.

Cindy Moon made her Marvel Comics debut in 2014’s The Amazing Spider-Man #1 and quickly established herself as a fan favourite character. She possess similar powers to Spider-Man, having been bitten by the very same radioactive spider that gave Peter Parker his powers. A (non-powered) Cindy has previously appeared in live-action, with Tiffany Espensen portraying the character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe movies Spider-Man: Homecoming and Avengers: Infinity War.

Spezialy has recently signed an overall deal with Amazon Studios, and Deadline is reporting that the streamer is expected to handle distribution of the Silk series, which has been written by Lauren Moon (Atypical). As yet however, neither Sony or Amazon have confirmed the deal.
