Kevin Feige confirms Abomination vs. Wong in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings

July 3, 2021 by Amie Cranswick

While we knew the character would be returning for Marvel’s She-Hulk series, the latest trailer for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings revealed that The Abomination will be back in the MCU sooner than expected, with The Incredible Hulk villain shown taking part in some kind of tournament in a battle against a sorcerer who looked suspiciously like Wong from Doctor Strange.

Well, as Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige explained, there’s a very good reason why fans assumed Abomination was fighting Wong… he is!

“We just recently released the final trailer for Shang-Chi,” Feige told Rotten Tomatoes. “Some fans said, ‘This looks like a character they hadn’t seen in many years named The Abomination, fighting a character that looks like Wong. And I can say that the reason it looks like that is because that is Abomination fighting Wong.”

Whether we’ll see any other familiar faces popping up for cameos remains to be seen, although there is some talk that Ben Kingsley could reprise his Iron Man 3 role as the Fake Mandarin, a.k.a. Trevor Slattery, presumably closing off the thread that was set up in the Marvel One-Shot short film All Hail the King.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton (Just Mercy) and stars Simu Liu (Kim’s Convenience) as Shang-Chi, Tony Leung (Infernal Affairs) as Wenwu, Awkwafina (Crazy Rich Asians) as Katy, newcomer Meng’er Zhang as Xialing, Michelle Yeoh (Star Trek: Discovery) as Jiang Nan, Ronny Chieng (Crazy Rich Asians) as Jon Jon, Fala Chen (The Undoing) as Jiang Li, Florian Munteanu (Creed II) as Razor Fist, Benedict Wong (Doctor Strange) as Wong and Dallas Liu (Pen15) in an undisclosed role.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is set for release on September 3rd, 2021.
