Christopher Nolan’s next film could find a home with Netflix

July 28, 2021 by EJ Moreno

Ever since Warner Bros. Pictures announced their HBO Max day-and-date model for 2021, they lost one of their most prominent directors, and now it seems he could be heading to one of the biggest streaming competitors.

Christopher Nolan fought hard for a cinematic run for his film Tenet during the pandemic and was against the new model to debut WB’s movies on streaming the same day as their theatrical run, slamming the studio for its release plan. Now it seems like he’s entered some conversations with streaming giant Netflix in some capacity.

While not getting into full details, Netflix movie chief Scott Stuber has now set his sights on Nolan’s next film. Stuber tells Variety that Netflix has already started conversations with the director.

“If and when [Christopher Nolan] comes up with his new movie, it’s about can we be a home for it and what would we need to do to make that happen. He’s an incredible filmmaker. I’m going to do everything I can,” says Stuber. “In this business, I’ve learned you need to have zero ego. I get punched and knocked down and get back up.”

While it’s not locked down yet, it is interesting to see Nolan begin to embrace the world of streaming after being so adamant against it. Though, Netflix could be looking into the world of theatrical releases with the film as one of their latest, Bo Burnham’s Inside, is currently seeing a limited theatrical run to great success. The work of Christopher Nolan would certainly bring more eyes to Netflix’s attempt at a cinematic run.
