Keanu Reeves says “it would be an honor” to join the MCU, still open to Constantine return for DC

November 28, 2021 by Gary Collinson

Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige has made no secret of his ambition to bring Keanu Reeves into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The Matrix and John Wick star has been linked to numerous Marvel roles over the years, and reportedly came closest to joining the franchise as Yon-Rogg in Captain Marvel, only to drop out of the project due to scheduling conflicts with John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum.

While it remains to be seen whether the right opportunity will come along again, Reeves has been chatting to Esquire about the prospect of joining the MCU, with the actor stating that: “It would be an honor. There’s some really amazing directors and visionaries, and they’re doing something that no one’s really ever done. It’s special in that sense, in terms of the scale, the ambition, the production. So it would be cool to be a part of that.”

Reeves does have past comic book movie experience, albeit with DC Comics, having starred in the title role in 2005’s Constantine. There were brief rumblings of a possible sequel a couple of years back, and while DC’s Hellblazer focus at the moment seems to be on the HBO Max reboot series from J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot, Reeves admitted that he’s still holding out hope of returning as the character: “I love playing Constantine. I’ve played a lot of Johns. How many Johns have I played? I don’t even know. I think it’s over ten. But anyway, I’d love to have the chance to play Constantine again.”
