The Lost Daughter and Squid Game win big at the 2021 Gotham Awards

With awards season heating up, the latest stop on the road to the Oscars took place last night as the winners of the 31st annual Gotham Awards were announced, with streaming giant Netflix leading the way in both the feature film and television categories.

The big winner on the night with four awards was The Lost Daughter, which beat out The Green Knight, Passing, Pig and Test Pattern for Best Feature and was also honoured with Breakthrough Director (Maggie Gyllenhaal), Best Screenplay (Gyllenhaal), and Outstanding Lead Performance (Olivia Colman) – the latter of which was tied with Frankie Faison for The Killing of Kenneth Chamberlain.

On the TV side, Netflix’s pop culture phenomenon Squid Game was honoured with the Breakthrough Series – Long Form award, while Reservation Dogs received Breakthrough Series – Short Form and Ethan Hawke (The Good Lord Bird) and Thuso Mbedu (The Underground Railroad) shared the award for Outstanding Performance in a New Series.
