Oh Boy! Quantum Leap pilot in production at NBC

January 14, 2022 by Matt Rodgers

Stories of a Quantum Leap revival or reboot have popped-up more often than Sam Beckett during the years since Scott Bakula made his final jump in 1993, but now it appears that NBC is putting in a pilot order for a new version of the beloved show.

Per Collider’s story, the rights to the show were caught up in legal issues for years, which is why a reboot has been seemingly stuck in the same frustrating limbo as Sam Beckett, but with that now resolved it’s being redeveloped by Alcatraz creators, Steven Lilien and Bryan Wynbrandt, who will write the reboot and executive produce with Blindspot‘s Martin Gero. Original Quantum Leap executive producer and creator, Don Bellisariois returning to executive produce alongside Deborah Pratt who served the original series as executive producer and narrator.

Although he has been very vocal about a Quantum Leap revival, there is no word yet on whether Scott Bakula will be involved, though with Dean Stockwell’s recent passing it would feel quite fitting for the series to have such a direct link to the original series.

Quantum Leap starred Bakula as Sam Beckett, a physicist involuntarily “leaping” through spacetime and temporarily taking the place of others to put right what once went wrong, aided by his best friend Al (Stockwell), who appears to him as a hologram from his present. The hit sci-fi series had a five-season run between 1989 and 1993.
