Spoiler free reactions to Sony’s Morbius begin to appear online

March 25, 2022 by Matt Rodgers

While reviews are embargoed for Sony’s oft-delayed Spider-Man spinoff Morbius, reactions are beginning to emerge from a London Fan Screening which was held last night, and while praise is reserved for Matt Smith’s performance, it’s fair to say that overall the response was mixed.

Some attendees called it “about as bad as you were expecting”, while others said that they were left “really confused at the future of the Sony Spiderverse”. There were some positive takes though, with one audience member claiming the Jared Leto blockbuster “features some great visual flair”.

Check out a selection of spoiler-free thoughts below…

Well, #Morbius is about as bad as you were expecting. A 2005 plot collides with visually confusing CGI to create a bit of a snooze fest. But don’t worry, they’ve saved the worst for last. Featuring some of the worst post credits scenes you’ve EVER seen, Sony are off their rocker. pic.twitter.com/TMfVpq95Tn

#Morbius walks a fine tightrope between gothic vampire melodrama and comic book fantasy. @JaredLeto embodies Michael Morbius with a dedication no other actor could. The pacing is brisk and it features some great visual flair. @SonyPicturesUK pic.twitter.com/4wyADac9cC

#Morbius proves that no matter how many famous faces or shiny visuals you squeeze in, Sony will always find a way to impressively misunderstand basic storytelling pic.twitter.com/Jxf8bPzi57

Well #Morbius is unfortunately not great (some really shoddy vfx & 00s formulaic plot) & definitely not as fun as Venom. Really confused at the future of the Sony Spiderverse following the post-credits scenes & the editing 🤷‍♀️ Matt Smith is clearly having a blast though! pic.twitter.com/ZCz8aLeUL0

#Morbius is the closest Marvel will come to Another Round, Michael Morbius topping himself up with human blood. It ain’t great by any means. Jared Leto should have played it as Paolo instead while Matt Smith tries his best to inject some fun into proceedings. pic.twitter.com/UzCkKGmu4z

One of Marvel’s most compelling and conflicted characters comes to the big screen as Oscar winner Jared Leto transforms into the enigmatic antihero Michael Morbius. Dangerously ill with a rare blood disorder and determined to save others suffering his same fate, Dr. Morbius attempts a desperate gamble. While at first it seems to be a radical success, a darkness inside him is unleashed. Will good override evil – or will Morbius succumb to his mysterious new urges?

Morbius sees Daniel Espinosa (Safe House) directing a cast that includes Jared Leto (Suicide Squad) as Dr. Michael Morbius, Adria Arjona (Pacific Rim Uprising) as Martine Bancroft, Matt Smith (Doctor Who) as Milo, Jared Harris (The Terror) as Morbius’ mentor, Michael Keaton (Spider-Man: Homecoming) as The Vulture and Tyrese Gibson (Fast & Furious) as an FBI agent.

Morbius is set for release on April 1st.
