Sharon Stone set for DC return as Blue Beetle villain

Sharon Stone has forged a career out of playing some of most powerful women on screen – think Basic Instinct‘s Catherine Tramell or Casino‘s Ginger McKenna – and now she is going to continue that trend by reportedly signing on to play the big-bad in DC’s Blue Beetle movie.

According to Variety Stone will play a character created specifically for the film; the villainous Victoria Kord.

No stranger to DC baddies having faced off against Catwoman in 2004’s ill-fated blockbuster, Stone will join Xolo Maridueña’s (Cobra Kai) titular superhero, Harvey Guillen (What We Do In the Shadows), Bruna Marquezine (Breaking Through) and Bellisa Escobedo (American Horror Stories) are George Lopez (No Man’s Land) as Uncle Rudy, Adriana Barraza (Babel) as Nana, Elpidia Carrillo (Euphoria) as Rocio and Damián Alcázar (Narcos) as Alberto.

Directed by by Manuel Soto (Charm City Kings), Blue Beetle was originally set to be an HBO Max Original, a la Batgirl, but Warner Bros. and DC Films announced that it would instead be getting a cinema release.

Blue Beetle made his first appearing in 2006’s Infinite Crisis comic book event, which saw teenager Jamie Reyes discover an alien scarab that bonds to his spine, providing him with a suit of extra-terrestrial armor that he uses to fight crime.

Blue Beetle is set for release on August 18th 2023.
