Susan Sarandon replaces Sharon Stone in DC’s Blue Beetle movie

April 16, 2022 by Gary Collinson

Susan Sarandon is heading to the DC Extended Universe, with the Oscar-winning actress set to take over the Blue Beetle villain role of Victoria Kord from Sharon Stone, who was previously in final negotiations for the part.

The first feature from Warner Bros. and DC Films to focus on a Latino lead, Blue Beetle sees Xolo Maridueña (Cobra Kai) starring in the title role as Jamie Reyes, a teenager who gains a suit of extra-terrestrial armor after finding an alien scarab which bonds to his spine.

Thelma & Louise star Sarandon will play the film’s villain, the newly-created character of Victoria Kord, while the cast also includes Harvey Guillen (What We Do In the Shadows), Bruna Marquezine (Breaking Through), Bellisa Escobedo (American Horror Stories), George Lopez (No Man’s Land), Adriana Barraza (Babel), Elpidia Carrillo (Euphoria), Damián Alcázar (Narcos) and Raoul Max Trujillo (Mayans M.C.).

Manuel Soto (Charm City Kings) is directing Blue Beetle from a script by Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer (Miss Bala), and the film is currently slated for release on August 18th 2023.
