Hayden Christensen teases that there may be more Darth Vader beyond Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi

April 25, 2022 by EJ Moreno

Are you ready for the Hayden Christensen renaissance? As the fans gear up for his return in the upcoming Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi series, the actor hints that we could be seeing more of his Darth Vader in the future.

In a recent interview with Total Film, Hayden Christensen dove into what it’s like to return to Star Wars. The actor played Anakin Skywalker in Star Wars: Attack of the Clones and Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith. The latter film saw him transform into the iconic Darth Vader in the film’s closing moments. We would recently see the villainous leader in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, but Christensen did not play the scene.

Obi-Wan Kenobi, which premieres on May 27th, marks Christensen’s first Star Wars appearance since 2005. He notes he was brought on to play Anakin and looks forward to fleshing out his Vader a bit more during that time.

“When George Lucas had brought me onto the prequels, it was to play Anakin,” Christensen explained to Total Film, per GamesRadar. “He gets knighted as Darth Vader towards the end, and for a couple of scenes, I get to put the suit on. But my journey with the character was with Anakin Skywalker. But the character? He’s such a complex character. And now, getting to explore the mindset and the emotional state of Darth Vader has been a lot of fun.”

Something that delighted fans in the Total Film piece was Hayden Christensen teasing that we could see more of his Vader later down the line. “The extent of this journey, I think, remains to be seen,” said Christensen. “But what a privilege to get to come back and do this and to be a part of this project.”

We know the actor is slated for the upcoming Star Wars: Ahsoka series as Anakin Skywalker, but fans are curious if there’s room for even more Christensen in modern Star Wars. Only time will tell, and let’s see how this first comeback works!

“During the reign of the Galactic Empire, former Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi embarks on a crucial mission. Kenobi must confront allies turned enemies and face the wrath of the Empire.”

Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi is being directed by Deborah Chow (The Mandalorian), with McGregor joined in the cast by Hayden Christensen (Darth Vader), Joel Edgerton (Owen Lars) and Bonnie Piesse (Beru Lars), as well as Star Wars newcomers Moses Ingram, Kumail Nanjiani, Indira Varma, Rupert Friend, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Sung Kang, Simone Kessell, Maya Erskine, Benny Safdie and Grant Feely.

Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi will premiere on Disney+ on May 27th.
