Amber Heard claims Mera role has been cut down “a bunch” in Aquaman 2

May 16, 2022 by EJ Moreno

During her ongoing trial with Johnny Depp, Amber Heard has claimed that her role in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom has almost disappeared.

Despite a petition calling for her removal from the sequel to DC’s 2018 smash hit having attracted millions of signatures, producer Peter Safran stated last year that firing Heard from Aquaman 2 was never an option. However, it seems that the fan pressure and negative publicity has impacted Mera’s level of involvement in the sequel as the actress has claimed “they basically took a bunch out of my role.”

Heard took the stand on Monday and claimed that her role was diminished from what it once was. She even says that Warner Bros. didn’t want to put her in Aquaman 2 at all, and she had to fight to stay in the film. Check out the update from Sky News, which was transcribed by BatmanNewsChris on Reddit…

Lawyer: “Have you participated in Aquaman 2?”
Heard: “I have. I fought really hard to stay in the movie. They didn’t want to include me in the film.”
Lawyer: “Were you ultimately able to film in Aquaman 2?”
Heard: “A very pared-down version of that role, yes.”
Lawyer: “What if anything changed in the script?”
Heard: “I was given a script. Then given new versions of the script that had taken away scenes that had action in it, that depicted my character and another character, without giving spoilers away, two characters fighting with one another. They basically took a bunch out of my role. They just removed a bunch.”

James Wan and Jason Momoa have yet to speak on the situation, but will likely keep to themselves anything concerning the Heard and her role in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. Audiences shall see the final product and how much Heard’s Mera features in it when the film releases next March.

“When an ancient power is unleashed, Aquaman must forge an uneasy alliance with an unlikely ally to protect Atlantis, and the world, from irreversible devastation.”

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom reunites director James Wan Aquaman stars Jason Momoa (Arthur Curry/Aquaman), Amber Heard (Mera), Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Black Manta), Patrick Wilson (Orm), Temuera Morrison (Tom Curry), Randall Park (Stephen Shin) and Dolph Lundgren (King Nereus). New additions to the cast include Indya Moore (Queen & Slim) as Karshon, Vincent Regan (300) as King Atlan, Jani Zhao (South) as Stingray, and Pilou Asbæk (Game of Thrones) in an as-yet-unrevealed role.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is set for release on March 17th, 2023.
