The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen reboot in the works

May 17, 2022 by Matt Rodgers

20th Century Studios and Hulu are reportedly working on another big-screen adaptation of Alan Moore and Kevin O’Neill’s The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Disney Studio division have tapped Justin Haythe (Revolutionary Road, Red Sparrow) to write the screenplay for the graphic-novel adaptation, which will then debut on Hulu.

Alan Moore’s The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen draws on the literary works of  Jules Verne, H. G. Wells, Bram Stoker, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, H. Rider Haggard, Ian Fleming, Herman Melville, Oscar Wilde, Robert Louis Stevenson, Edgar Allan Poe, Gaston Leroux, and Mark Twain, to tell the story of an assortment of fictional literary characters – Captain Nemo, Allan Quatermain, Dr. Jekyll, the Invisible Man – who assemble to protect the world from evildoers.

It was the subject of a 2003 blockbuster movie directed by Stephen Norrington (The Saint), which was perhaps most famous for being the film which forced legendary actor Sean Connery to retire shortly afterwards, a decision that might have been related to the fact that star and director came to blows during the troubled production. The choppy final film was released to scathing reviews, but still managed to make $179M worldwide.
