Todd Phillips reveals Joker 2 title as Joker: Folie à Deux

June 8, 2022 by EJ Moreno

Are you ready for Joker: Folie à Deux? Todd Phillips and Joaquin Phoenix sure hope you are as the Joker sequel is officially on its way.

On Tuesday, Phillips took to social media to give fans the first teaser of the upcoming Joker 2, which follows 2019’s smash hit. The filmmaker showcased the script’s cover in the post, written by Phillips and Scott Silver. He also included a shot of star Joaquin Phoenix reading the screenplay.

While it may lose prestige in some eyes, a billion-dollar Academy Award-winning film is nearly unheard of these days. 12 Oscar nominations are no easy feat, so a sequel to Joker isn’t shocking. The nominations include Best Picture, Best Director for Phillips, Best Adapted Screenplay for Phillips and Silver; Phoenix won for Best Actor, and Hildur Guðnadóttir won for Best Original Score.

About the title, Merriam-Webster defines ‘folie à deux’ as “the presence of the same or similar delusional ideas in two persons closely associated with one another.” It looks like we will dive deeper into the twisted mine of Arthur Fleck, the twisted Joker created for this universe.

The last we saw Fleck in 2019’s Joker was the man sitting crazed in Arkham Asylum as he retells his story. Many speculated he could have even made up the first film’s events, so Joker: Folie à Deux could explore those outlets.
