Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige forewarned Sony about making their Spidey Universe

July 10, 2022 by EJ Moreno

The working relationship between Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures is intriguing. Since 2015, Sony and Marvel Studios have collaborated on Spider-Man movies and included Spider-Man in MCU projects. But, it seems like Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige didn’t have too much faith in Sony launching their own cinematic Marvel universe.

In a new report by The Ankler’s Jeff Sneider, it is stated Feige has some influence on what happens in Sony/Marvel projects like Venom, Morbius, and the upcoming Kraven the Hunter and Madame Web., with Sneider writing that: “And yes, Marvel’s Kevin Feige does weigh in and offer notes on Sony’s Marvel movies that don’t feature Spider-Man.”

In the report, one insider credits Feige for “guiding Sony’s approach and warning the studio not to get too ahead of itself in terms of building some larger universe in the vein of the Avengers movies.”

Since 2018’s Venom, we’ve had Venom: Let There Be Carnage and Morbius released in theaters, with several others planned including Kraven The Hunter, Madame Web, and El Muerto. However, with the polarizing reactions to Let There Be Carnage and the meme-worthy Morbius, we have to wonder how much attention Sony is paying to Feige’s notes…
