Martin Lawrence says Bad Boys 4 is still happening

July 14, 2022 by Matt Rodgers

Following the fall-out from “the slap” Bad Boys 4 was one of a multitude of Will Smith projects to be put on the back-burner by studios, but now Martin Lawrence has come forward with a positive statement regarding the future of the duo’s blockbuster franchise.

2020’s Bad Boys for Life was one of the last major success stories at the global box-office before the pandemic brought the world to a standstill. The 17-years in the making sequel grossed $426M, which was more than its predecessors combined. It also just happened to be a really good action film.

The signs promising that we might get to see the further adventures of Miami Police detectives Marcus Burnett and Mike Lowrey. Fast forward to 2022 on the stage at the Dolby Theatre, Los Angeles, and the chances of seeing Bad Boys 4 appeared to disappear in an instant.

However, in an interview with Ebony magazine Martin Lawrence was speaking about his career, reflecting on the Bad Boys franchise, and dismissing the notion that the Will Smith and Chris Rock incident would have any bearing on a fourth outing for the duo by simply stating that when it comes to plans for a sequel “We got one more at least”.

With Netflix halting production on Smith’s action-thriller Fast & Loose, whether Sony decide to proceed with at least one more Bad Boys film might just depend on the reception for Apple TV+’s in-the-can slavery drama Emancipation, which is yet to be given a TX date.
