Johnny Depp is King Louis XV in first look at Maïwenn’s Jeanne du Barry

August 13, 2022 by Gary Collinson

Following his insanely-high profile divorce, legal issues and defamation trials with ex-wife Amber Heard, Johnny Depp is looking to get his career back on track as he steps in front of the camera for his first feature in three years, taking on the role of King Louis XV in French actress and filmmaker Maïwenn’s Jeanne du Barry. Here’s an official first look at Depp in character…

The French language film is inspired by the life of Jeanne du Barry, who is being portrayed by Maïwenn, and will follow her journey from poverty to the royal court of King Louis XV, where she becomes his favorite mistress and companion and reignites his appetite for life.

Alongside Depp and Maïwenn, the film also features a cast that includes Benjamin Lavernhe, Pierre Richard, Melvil Poupaud, Noémie Lvovsky, Pascal Greggory and India Hair. It is currently shooting, with locations in Paris and Versailles, and is set to release in 2023.
