James Gunn dismisses “feud” between Marvel and DC

November 1, 2022 by EJ Moreno

In response to a now-deleted tweet, filmmaker James Gunn shuts down any rumors of beef between him and Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige.

Gunn recently joined DC Studios, teaming with producer Peter Safran to share the leadership position for the Warner Bros. Discovery superhero brand. This felt strange to many fans as this would put Gunn in opposition with long-time collaborator Kevin Feige. Gunn has helmed four projects in the MCU; all focused on the Guardians of the Galaxy.

Responding to a tweet that read, “So do you hate Kevin Feige now?” Gunn shared his candid feelings on the petty drama between Marvel and DC fans.

Gunn says in the tweet that “a dollar less for Marvel is not a dollar more for DC.” Implying that if superheroes from one brand make less money, that’s not a good sign for anyone else. He adds a common goal between the two: both want to bring joy to their fans (while also making billions of dollars).

Check out Gunn’s tweet below:

Not only do I love Kevin, he was the 1st person I told after I did the deal with DC (@JohnCena was the 2nd). Contrary to popular belief, a dollar less for Marvel is not a dollar more for DC. DC & Marvel have the common goal of keeping the theater-going experience vibrant & alive! https://t.co/5iiGEWS5Zc

Feige recently added to this story, noting on the red carpet of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever that he will see anything Gunn does for DC Studios.

“Well, he has got a lot of work to do for Marvel between now and May, which he’s well aware of,” said Feige about Gunn’s upcoming Marvel projects like The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special on Disney+ this month and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 coming May of next year. “But after that,” added Feige, “I’ll be first in line to see anything he does.”

There’s no denying that the relationship between DC and Marvel fans is toxic, but it seems like the executives behind the films enjoy watching what comes from their friends and making tons of money.

Hopefully, the Gunn & Feige bond can build bridges between comic book movies’ most die-hard fans in the future.
