Netflix renews Monster for another season: which infamous case will they tackle?

November 7, 2022 by EJ Moreno

Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story came in like a wrecking ball and took over the fall streaming season.

It’s a record-breaking series, with domination on charts all over the place. Monster was the number one show on the Nielsen chart for three straight weeks, while Netflix touted the series as the second most popular English TV season ever. Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story reportedly accumulated over 900 million view hours.

Many fans were curious about who Monster Season 2 will focus on. During the Dahmer season, we saw small glimpses of other notorious killers. John Wayne Gacy and Ed Gein had minor cameo appearances in the series, leading fans to believe they could be the next “Monster” they want to showcase.

In the past, Murphy has explored serial killers like Richard Ramirez and Aileen Wuornos in American Horror Story; both fit the Murphy aesthetic and could give Wuornos another mainstream offering other than the Academy Award-winning Monster from director Patty Jenkins.

Ryan Murphy had quite the Halloween season, as The Watcher also proved a significant success. The series toppled Dahmer‘s 21-day stint at the top on Oct. 14, something Murphy and Netflix celebrated.

In an official statement, the head of Global TV at Netflix, Bela Bajaria, announced the second seasons while celebrating the massive success:

“Audiences can’t take their eyes off Monster and The Watcher. The creative team of Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan on Monster, along with Eric Newman on The Watcher, are masterful storytellers who captivated audiences all over the world. The back-to-back force of these two series is due to Ryan’s distinct original voice, which created cultural sensations, and we are thrilled to continue telling stories in the Monster and Watcher universes.”

The Watcher season One featured Naomi Watts, Bobby Cannavale, Jennifer Coolidge, Mia Farrow, Margo Martindale, Terry Kinney, Joe Mantello, and Richard Kind. Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story saw Evan Peters lead a cast that included Richard Jenkins, Molly Ringwald, Michael Learned, and Niecy Nash.

You can now watch both series on Netflix.
