David Harbour shares excitement for Red Guardian return in Marvel’s Thunderbolts

If you saw Black Widow, you know David Harbour is having the time of his life as Red Guardian. Thankfully he’ll return in a new film, and the actor couldn’t be more hyped about it.

We are set to see Red Guardian join the newest team in the MCU in 2024’s Thunderbolts, with Harbour starring alongside Harrison Ford as Secretary Thaddeus Ross, Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, Hannah Jon-Kamen as Ghost, Wyatt Russell as U.S. Agent, Olga Kerleynko as Taskmaster, the fan-favorite Yelena Belova/Black Widow played by Florence Pugh, and Sebastian Stan as The Winter Soldier.

Speaking with Total Film, Harbour revealed his excitement over his return as Red Guardian in the upcoming film, adding that that he is excited about joining the other members of the team.

“I really like him, and I love Florence [Pugh] as Yelena [also in Thunderbolts]. And then you throw in Wyatt [Russell, as U.S. Agent] from Falcon and the Winter Soldier and Sebastian [Stan, reprising Bucky Barnes]. You have all these great, colorful characters. I’m really excited for that movie.”

“I can’t wait to pull back the layers,” he continued. “The great thing about him is that he’s not very well-defined in the comics, like some of the other Marvel superheroes. So we can play with him in a different way and be surprising and unexpected.”

You can next see Harbour in the upcoming Christmas action film Violent Night, which is set for release on December 2nd, 2022. Watch the trailer here. Thunderbolts meanwhile will close out Phase Five of the MCU when it releases on July 26th, 2024.
