Jackie Chan confirms talks are underway for Rush Hour 4

December 9, 2022 by EJ Moreno

Jackie Chan is easily one of the most recognizable actors in the world. While Chan has quite a stacked resume, his work in the iconic Rush Hour films is where many fans will never forget him.

Now, the actor is confirming that there are talks of a fourth Rush Hour film, the first entry since 2007’s Rush Hour 3. Chan made a rare on-stage appearance at the Red Sea Film Festival and surprised the audiences with this news.

“We’re talking about part 4 right now,” Chan told the festival-goers. He also said he would meet with the film’s director that evening to discuss the script. He did not name the director, which stirred up quite the conversation.

Filmmaker Brett Ratner directed all the first three Rush Hour movies but hasn’t directed a film since 2014. Soon after, in 2017, seven women accused the filmmaker of sexual harassment and misconduct. The women included actresses Olivia Munn and Natasha Henstridge. Warner Bros. soon cut any ties with the filmmaker.

Chan will want to maintain his well-established reputation, and a Rush Hour return with Ratner could spell doom. There’s also no word on Chris Tucker’s return, but fans will likely see the iconic duo reunite.

With Tucker and Chan in the lead, the original Rush Hour grossed $244 million worldwide. The 2001 film Rush Hour 2 brought home $347.3 million, and the third installment was a box office success, grossing $258 million worldwide against a $140 million budget.

Chan notes that the success of the films did surprise him at first. “My manager said look, there’s a script, and it’s called Rush Hour. I said no, Hong Kong police? I’m not going to do it. He said Jackie, why don’t you try last time. I said okay, this is the last time.”

Chan said he received a call from the filmmaker and his co-star, who said, “Dude, we’re a huge success. We’re 70 million in the first weekend.”

“For me, I don’t have a count of what 70 million is. I don’t know the box office. I just know its certainly a success. And then they made part 2 and part 3,” he concludes.

During the keynote at the Red Sea Film Festival, Chan also stated that 2022 marks his 60th anniversary in the film business.
