Ryan Coogler says he’s more than ready for Black Panther 3

December 31, 2022 by EJ Moreno

Ryan Coogler is fresh off Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, and he’s already looking forward to returning again.

The director has helmed both Black Panther movies, which have grossed over 2 billion combined. As he’s proven a vital filmmaker, it’s more than enough reason to bring him back for more rounds as a director.

Coogler spoke with The New York Times about his future at Marvel Studios and if he’d be open to doing more entries, stating: “I feel blessed that I have the opportunity to work on these movies, bro. When I got asked to do the first one, it was like a moving train. I thank God every day that I was able to jump on it and meet these people, these actors, and to meet Chadwick during some of the last years of his life.”

“I’ll do it as long as folks will have me,” Coogler adds. “But I think it’s bigger than just me or Joe. Between the first and second movie, we made $2 billion at the box office, which is what matters the most to corporations. So I hope that it continues, man. I hope people are still making movies about Wakanda long after we’re gone.”

Ryan Coogler has enough material to work with for plenty of future Black Panther movies. As vibranium becomes more sought after in the MCU and the introduction of T’Challa’s son, Coogler and the Black Panther crew will lead a new phase for the characters.

In Marvel Studios’ “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” Queen Ramonda (Angela Bassett), Shuri (Letitia Wright), M’Baku (Winston Duke), Okoye (Danai Gurira), and the Dora Milaje (including Florence Kasumba), fight to protect their nation from intervening world powers in the wake of King T’Challa’s death. As the Wakandans strive to embrace their next chapter, the heroes must band together with the help of War Dog Nakia (Lupita Nyong’o) and Everett Ross (Martin Freeman) and forge a new path for the kingdom of Wakanda.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever reunites Ryan Coogler with his Black Panther stars Danai Gurira (Okoye), Letitia Wright (Shuri), Winston Duke (M’Baku), Lupita Nyong’o (Nakia), Florence Kasumba (Ayo), Angela Bassett (Ramonda) and Martin Freeman (Everett Ross), while new additions include Dominique Thorne as Riri Williams/Ironheart, Tenoch Huerta as Namor, Michaela Coel as Aneka, Mabel Cadena as Namora and Alex Livanalli as Attuma.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is in cinemas now.
