Nicolas Cage and Bill Skarsgård are father/son rivals in Lords of War

May 9, 2023 by Ricky Church

After almost 20 years, Nicolas Cage and director Andrew Niccol are reuniting for Lords of War, a sequel to their 2005 drama Lord of War that saw Cage as notorious arms dealer Yuri Orlov. Cage will star alongside Bill Skarsgård (John Wick: Chapter 4) as Yuri’s son who becomes a business rival as he tries to top Yuri’s infamous legacy.

The synopsis for Lords of War reads “Yuri Orlov (Cage), the world’s most notorious gunrunner, discovers he has a son, Anton (Skarsgård), who isn’t trying to right his father’s wrongs — he’s trying to top them. Not only selling guns but the “trigger pullers” too, Anton is amassing a mercenary army to fight America’s Middle East conflicts. This is the story of Yuri and Anton’s bitter rivalry — even at odds over the same woman. Who will prevail when father and son go to war?”

Vendôme Pictures will produce the film with the company’s Philippe Rousselet and Fabrice Gianfermi. Cage will also produce through Saturn Films while Skarsgård will executive produce.

“There is so much more to explore with these characters,” Niccol said on returning for a Lord of War sequel. “Plato said it best – ‘Only the dead have seen the end of war.’ I’m looking forward to spending more time in the company of the charming devil that is Yuri Orlov and now his illegitimate son – who turns out to not be legitimate in any way.”

“The Lord of War world has no shortage of ammunition in the possibilities of stories we can tell, and we are very excited to tell yet another one that follows Yuri and Anton’s dangerous journey,” said Rousselet.

The original Lord of War was released in the fall of 2005 and starred Cage, Jared Leto, Ethan Hawke, Bridget Moynahan, Ian Holm, Eamonn Walker and Sammi Rotibi. Lords of War will begin production in the fall.
