Fast X director addresses those MAJOR cameos during film’s final moments

May 19, 2023 by EJ Moreno

Major spoilers for Fast X ahead!

As Fast X looks to take the franchise down its final stretch, the family is all coming together. That means characters and actors we’d never see return are back in this installment.

Fast & Furious is not afraid to bring characters back from the dead; we’ve seen Letty, Han, and other characters show up after shocking deaths in the films. But in Fast X, we see the return of one previously dead character, Gisele, played by Gal Gadot, and Hobbs, played by Dwayne Johnson.

Regarding Johnson’s cameo during the post-credit scene, many were shocked when many outlets spoiled his return to the franchise. For years, Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson have shared a not-so-subtle beef, where Johnson publically asked Diesel to stop asking him to return for these final Fast & Furious films.

The Hollywood Reporter recently spoke to Fast X director Louis Leterrier and asked who made a “peace treaty” to get Johnson to return as Hobbs. Leterrier laughs, “The peace treaty…I kind of did. We all did. Ultimately, the movie did.”

He further explains, “I didn’t know Dwayne, personally, but we reached out to Dwayne and Dwayne’s team. We sort of looked at each other from across the room and winked a few months back, saying, ‘We should work together.’ And then, I had this idea and presented it to the producers and the studio. And then we reached out to Dwayne and his team and said, ‘Just come and watch the movie. You have to love the movie first.’

Leterrier continues, “So he came to see the movie and really loved it, and then we started talking. It was very smooth, and frankly, as a fan, I could not conceive continuing the franchise without either Dwayne or Gal Gadot.”

At the time of writing, there’s no word on the status of the relationship between Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson.

Gal Gadot was last seen in 2013’s Fast & Furious 6, where she was killed off. But sticking true to the insanity of the franchise, Gadot’s Gisele appeared in a frozen submarine saving Letty & Cipher in Antarctica.

Addressing the Gadot cameo, THR asks Leterrier if he was on set with the actress when filming or if it was like Shazam! Fury of the Gods, and she filmed without the director or even scene partners.

The director says, “I was on the set with her. I was lucky enough to see Gal Gadot and give her a big hug, and a thank you at the end of the shoot. That was a highlight for me. I was lucky enough to direct one commercial with her, and I saw the power of Gal Gadot for 30 seconds. So, now that I get to not only work with her but also bring back Gisele into the franchise, I’m the happiest fan in the world.”

While there’s no official confirmation, it’s safe to say that both will appear in the upcoming Fast 11.

Over many missions and against impossible odds, Dom Toretto (Vin Diesel) and his family have outsmarted, out-nerved, and outdriven every foe in their path. Now, they confront the most lethal opponent they’ve ever faced: A terrifying threat emerging from the shadows of the past who’s fueled by blood revenge and who is determined to shatter this family and destroy everything—and everyone—that Dom loves, forever.

In 2011’s Fast Five, Dom and his crew took out nefarious Brazilian drug kingpin Hernan Reyes and decapitated his empire on a bridge in Rio De Janeiro. What they didn’t know was that Reyes’ son, Dante (Aquaman’s Jason Momoa), witnessed it all and has spent the last 12 years masterminding a plan to make Dom pay the ultimate price.

Dante’s plot will scatter Dom’s family from Los Angeles to the catacombs of Rome, from Brazil to London and from Portugal to Antarctica. New allies will be forged and old enemies will resurface. But everything changes when Dom discovers that his own 8-year-old son (Leo Abelo Perry, Black-ish) is the ultimate target of Dante’s vengeance.

Fast X is directed by Louis Leterrier and features a cast that includes Vin Diesel, Jason Statham, Michelle Rodriguez, John Cena, Jason Momoa, Brie Larson, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Jordana Brewster, Nathalie Emmanuel, Sung Kang, Gal Gadot, Scott Eastwood, Michael Rooker, Daniela Melchior, Alan Ritchson, Cardi B, Helen Mirren, Rita Moreno, Charlize Theron, and Gal Gadot.

Fast X is now playing in cinemas worldwide.
