Mark Hamill wants more vintage Luke Skywalker… as long as its an “age-appropriate actor”

May 28, 2023 by EJ Moreno

Mark Hamill just wants Luke Skywalker to act like his age. If that’s appearing in an upcoming entry as a potential Force Ghost or trying to recreate the younger adventure of Luke, the character’s future is something Hamill cares about but wants to see done a certain way.

The actor recently spoke to Esquire and touched on the character of Luke and especially what it was like to see a younger version recreated for The Mandalorian and its spin-off. Hamill opens up about the awkwardness of a digital recreation and wants to see a new actor cast.

He reveals, “It is unusual to see yourself like that. It can’t be cheap. People say, ‘Oh, now you’re going to be able to do a whole series of Luke post-Return of the Jedi.’ I said, ‘I don’t think so.’ First of all, they don’t need to tell those stories, but if they do, they could get an age-appropriate actor.”

Later in the interview, the actor was asked if he would appear in the newly reported Star Wars film with Daisy Ridley, directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy. Hamill remained coy as ever.

He teases, “One thing you learn working for Lucasfilm: everything is confidential. Everything is confidential. So, if I were involved, I wouldn’t be able to tell you. And if I were not involved, I wouldn’t be able to tell you. So, I don’t know. We’ll all find out together, I guess.”

While Hamill’s future as Luke Skywalker remains in the air, you can see the actor in Bert Kreischer’s The Machine, which is currently in cinemas. Read our review here.
