Meet The Flintstones animated movie coming from The Super Mario Bros. Movie directors

June 10, 2023 by EJ Moreno

Yabba-dabba-doo! Prepare for yet another attempted revival of The Flinstones as Deadline confirms a Flintstones origin story movie is in early development. The film titled Meet the Flintstones will be written by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, who directed The Super Mario Bros. Movie.

The new animated film will focus on the origins of the Flintstones family, most likely focusing on the early days of Fred and Wilma meeting, falling in love, and beginning their family. There could also be a focus on the Fred and Barney friendship or even go as far back as the creation of Bedrock. With an origin story from the team behind one of the highest-grossing animated movies, the possibilities are endless.

This film is separate from a recently announced project that Warner Bros. Animation will produce called Bedrock, a spin-off of The Flintstones. Bedrock already has a cast that includes Elizabeth Banks (Pebbles), Nicole Byer (Betty), and Joe Lo Truglio (Barney).

The Flintstones is one of the formative animated television series. The original broadcast on ABC from September 30, 1960, to April 1, 1966, was the first animated series to hold a prime-time slot on television. There’s been several spin-off series, television specials, and two 90s live-action movies. None have hit the heights of the original series.
