Harrison Ford has no plans to retire from acting

June 27, 2023 by EJ Moreno

Harrison Ford is certainly slowing down these days, but don’t expect the legendary actor to give up on acting anytime soon.

Out on the promotional trail for his Indy swansong in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, Ford recently spoke with CNN’s Chris Wallace when the conversation turned to if Ford was retiring from acting within the next few years. Ford doesn’t feel like it’s time yet.

“I don’t do well when I don’t have work. I love to work… I love to feel useful. It’s my Jones. I want to be helpful,” says the actor.

When asked what pushes him to keep working, Ford notes it’s the collaborations, adding: “The intensity and the intimacy of collaboration… it’s the combined ambition, somehow forged from words on a page. I don’t plan what I want to do in a scene, and I don’t feel obliged to do anything, but I am naturally affected by the things that I work on.”

While Harrison Ford isn’t done with acting, he’s done with the Indiana Jones character with his final outing Dial of Destiny opening this week [read our reviews here and here]. He will however soon be seen as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, having signed on to succeed the late William Hurt in the role of Thunderbolt Ross for Marvel’s Captain America: Brave New Worlds and Thunderbolts.

Starring along with Harrison Ford are Phoebe Waller-Bridge (“Fleabag”), Antonio Banderas (“Pain and Glory”), John Rhys-Davies (“Raiders of the Lost Ark”), Shaunette Renee Wilson (“Black Panther”), Thomas Kretschmann (“Das Boot”), Toby Jones (“Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom”), Boyd Holbrook (“Logan”), Oliver Richters (“Black Widow”), Ethann Isidore (“Mortel”) and Mads Mikkelsen (“Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore”).

Directed by James Mangold, the film is produced by Kathleen Kennedy, Frank Marshall, and Simon Emanuel, with Steven Spielberg and George Lucas serving as executive producers. John Williams, who has scored each Indy adventure since the original “Raiders of the Lost Ark” in 1981, is once again composing the score.

Indiana Jones final adventure begins when Dial of Destiny arrives in cinemas on June 30th, 2023.
