It looks like Dracula won’t be reaching London’s shores any time soon as The Last Voyage of the Demeter has been delayed in the UK and other countries ahead of its international release due to the sale of studio eOne.
The Last Voyage of the Demeter was released just this past weekend and while reception has been fairly positive (read Rob Kojder’s review here) it has so far underperformed at the box office in the North American market. However, the bigger issue at play is the sale of eOne to Lionsgate in the wake of shutting down its UK operations. eOne’s parent company Hasbro recently announced the sale to Lionsgate for $500 million and with Lionsgate having their own distribution methods in the UK it has left little purpose for eOne to release the film.
The UK won’t be the only country affected as The Last Voyage of the Demeter will also be delayed in Spain and India. As Lionsgate finalizes its acquisition of eOne, it may be a while before the Dracula film will be properly released.
Based on a single chilling chapter from Bram Stoker’s classic novel Dracula, The Last Voyage of the Demeter tells the terrifying story of the merchant ship Demeter, which was chartered to carry private cargo—fifty unmarked wooden crates—from Carpathia to London.
The Last Voyage of the Demeter has a cast of Vampire-bait made up of Corey Hawkins (Straight Outta Compton), Aisling Franciosi (The Nightingale), Liam Cunningham (Game of Thrones), David Dastmalchian (Dune), Jon Jon Briones (Ratched), Stefan Kapicic (Deadpool), Nikolai Nikolaeff (Stranger Things) and Javier Botet (It).
