Welcome to the United States of Barbie as the Greta Gerwig-directed film continues its box office domination.
At the time of writing, Barbie is now the highest-grossing 2023 movie at the domestic box office, overtaking The Super Mario Bros. Movie and its impressive haul. After Wednesday, 8/23/23, Barbie will sit at around $574.2M, overtaking Illumination animated Nintendo film, which finalized its run around that number.
Reports say the last time Warner Bros. dominated the domestic box office was in 2011 when Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part II completed its run with an impressive $381M. The film had already became the studio’s biggest domestic release of all time, surpassing 2008’s The Dark Knight.

Barbie’s box office powers are nothing to scoff at; it only took the film 34 days to hit this landmark compared to the 138 days it took Super Mario Bros Movie to get to $574.2M. As we’ve reported, the box office run of Barbie has seen the best for a female director and for its stars Margot Robbie & Ryan Gosling.
After being expelled from the utopian Barbie Land for being a less-than-perfect doll, Barbie and Ken go on a journey of self-discovery to the real world.
