Nicolas Cage is ready for more National Treasure

January 16, 2024 by EJ Moreno

Ignoring the failed Disney+ series, it’s been quite some time since audiences have enjoyed National Treasure. And the star of the franchise, Nicolas Cage, is well aware.

Speaking to Deadline, Cage reflecting on his time filming the two Disney movies and notes the lack of cinematic National Treasure adventures since the release of Book of Secrets back in 2007.

He recalls the fun he had, showing his openness to a return. “They’re a lot of fun. I mean, I enjoy them too, and I think Jon Turteltaub made a couple of classic films for the whole family. I’m still kind of amazed that Disney hasn’t wanted to make a third one,” says Cage.

The actor adds, “I thought the movies brought a lot of joy to the public, and it’s certainly interesting about history, and I think all of that is worthwhile filmmaking.”

“You can dig deep and go into the more abstract stuff, like Bringing out the Dead, or Pig or even Dream Scenario, or you can open it up and make a movie that pleases a lot of people and hopefully gives families a chance to escape a little bit from whatever may be going on at home or in the office,” Cage concludes. “I think they’re all valid.”

Cage’s first National Treasure grossed $347 million worldwide and received mixed reviews from critics. The sequel would go on to gross $459 million worldwide.

National Treasure (2004) and National Treasure: Book of Secrets (2007) are both streaming on Disney+.
