Harry Potter TV series circling writers, including The Hunger Games’ Michael Lesslie

January 23, 2024 by EJ Moreno

The Harry Potter series has begun the hunt for its creative heads. Even though the fan reception to the announcement of the TV reboot was lukewarm and J.K. Rowling has still been a source of contention, Warner Bros. Discovery is moving forward and has started courting creatives to pitch their visions for the project.

According to a new report from Deadline,” multiple writers are now vying for the right” to adapt seven books, which followed the titular Harry Potter and his adventures at Hogwarts and fight against Voldemort.

Deadline notes that the interested parties are “Martha Hillier, Kathleen Jordan, Tom Moran, and Michael Lesslie,” and they all have been presenting their visions. It was reported that “pitch meetings happened in Los Angeles this week.”

Hillier is known for her work on the Netflix and BBC fantasy series The Last Kingdom, and Jordan created the Netflix series Teenage Bounty Hunters, which was exec-produced by Jenji Kohan. As for Moran, the British writer created the Amazon series The Devil’s Hour, which starred Peter Capaldi.

Lesslie is one of the more interesting picks on the list, as he’s fresh off peening The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes and was exec producer of AMC’s John Le Carre drama The Little Drummer Girl, which starred Florence Pugh, Michael Shannon, and Alexander Skarsgård.

The outlet does note that Rowling’s level of involvement is not yet known, but “she’s expected to be involved in the decision-making on the series.” She was previously the sole writer on the Fantastic Beasts movies, a Harry Potter spin-off film franchise. The movies were not meant with the same reception as the original set of Harry Potter films.
