Superman & Lois finds its Jimmy Olsen for final season

March 21, 2024 by EJ Moreno

Even as it comes to a close, the popular CW series Superman & Lois is still adding familiar faces. It’s been reported that for its fourth and final season, Daily Planet photographer Jimmy Olsen will join the Super family and is set to be portrayed by actor Douglas Smith.

Per TVLine, this take on Jimmy is ‘an extroverted 20-something known for being the life of the party around the office’ and ‘despite being work colleagues with Clark, he’s been unable to get him out of his awkward shell.’ Adding that he’s ‘unaware of Clark’s super-secret, Jimmy’s still determined to become his pal.’

Smith is best known for his work on HBO’s Big Love and appearing in the second season of HBO’s Big Little Lies. Also, a fun fact for eagle-eyed Superman & Lois fans: Douglas Smith is the younger brother of Gregory Smith (Everwood), who has directed eight episodes of the CW series.

Shockingly, this is the first time that Jimmy Olsen has appeared in The CW’s Arrowverse, but we did see Mehcad Brooks portray James Olsen on Supergirl, which took place in an entirely different part of the multiverse.

As for the entire cast, series regulars returning for Season 4 include Tyler Hoechlin as Clark Kent/Superman, Elizabeth Tulloch as Lois Lane, Alex Garfin as Jordan Kent, Michael Bishop as Jonathan Kent, and Michael Cudlitz as Lex Luthor. Avatar: The Last Airbender’s Yvonne Chapman was also recently cast as Luthor’s loyal henchwoman Amanda McCoy.

The fourth and final season of Superman & Lois is expected to air this fall.
