Ernie Hudson enjoyed 2016’s Ghostbusters reboot but knows it “was disappointing” for fans

March 26, 2024 by EJ Moreno

Ernie Hudson returns to the Ghostbusters franchise again for the recent release, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, and with that he’s  also speaking on the instalment that shook more fans than anything else.

During a new interview with The Independent, Hudson praised the filmmaker behind 2016’s Ghostbusters: Answer the Call, but pointed out that the fans were not receptive to it.

“Look, I’m a fan of (2016 director) Paul Feig, so I have nothing negative about him to say other than I don’t quite understand why you do a reboot. You know what I mean? Just make another movie,” said Hudson.

“Fans were really invested in the story and the characters, and I think it was disappointing. I enjoyed the movie, but I think it wasn’t what fans were hoping for,” Hudson adds.

The actor also touched on his once-heated beef with Sony and how they handled him during the original run, stating: “Sony is not the same studio it was 40 years ago, and they’ve really stepped up and given some dimension to the character. Credit to Sony for being open to hearing my feelings because in the first one, they didn’t.”

Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire finds the Spengler family returning to where it all started, the iconic New York City firehouse, to team up with the original Ghostbusters, who’ve developed a top-secret research lab to take busting ghosts to the next level. But when the discovery of an ancient artifact unleashes an evil force, Ghostbusters, new and old, must join forces to protect their home and save the world from a second Ice Age.

Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire sees McKenna Grace, Finn Wolfhard, Carrie Coon, Paul Rudd, Celeste O’Connor, and Logan Kim reprise their Afterlife roles alongside series veterans Ernie Hudson, Bill Murray, and Dan Aykroyd with franchise newcomers Kumail Nanjiani, James Acaster and Patton Oswalt.

Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire is now in cinemas.
