X-Men ’97 sets strong Disney+ debut with 4 million views in 5 days

March 26, 2024 by EJ Moreno

X-Men are back, and if this is how they’ll do in the MCU, we could see a new wave of mutant fandom.

Nostalgia fueled a strong opening for X-Men ’97, the follow-up series to X-Men: The Animated Series. Disney released numbers, and the premiere episode alone had 4 million views globally in the first five days. The studio reports this is now the strongest opening for an animated Disney+ original since What If…? Season 1.

For those who don’t know, Disney+ tallies its views as hours viewed divided by the runtime. It goes to note that each episode of X-Men ’97 is roughly 30 minutes long.

For the original series, views across the original 1992 X-Men animated series have increased by 522% since the trailer for X-Men ’97 dropped back in February. It seems like interest in the fan-favorite group of mutants is reaching new heights.

Could this be a perfect way to prepare audiences for their inevitable debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe? We shall see, but for now this is the time to enjoy X-Men ’97.

The revival revisits the iconic era of the 1990s as The X-Men, a band of mutants who use their uncanny gifts to protect a world that hates and fears them, are challenged like never before, forced to face a dangerous and unexpected new future.

X-Men ’97 features Ray Chase as Cyclops, Jennifer Hale as Jean Grey, Alison Sealy-Smith as Storm, Cal Dodd as Wolverine, JP Karliak as Morph, Lenore Zann as Rogue, George Buza as Beast, AJ LoCascio as Gambit, Holly Chou as Jubilee, Isaac Robinson-Smith as Bishop, Matthew Waterson as Magneto and Adrian Hough as Nightcrawler. The series comes from Beau DeMayo as head writer, with the 10-episode season directed by Jake Castorena, Chase Conley, and Emi Yonemura.

X-Men ’97 is now streaming on Disney+.
