James Gunn’s Superman adds Pruitt Taylor Vince as Jonathan Kent

April 17, 2024 by Ricky Church

James Gunn’s Superman has cast Pruitt Taylor Vince (Bird Box) as a classic character to the Man of Steel’s family. According to the Wrap, Taylor Vince will play Jonathan Kent, the father to David Corenswet’s Clark Kent/Superman.

Jonathan Kent played a major role in shaping Clark to become Superman. After Kal-El’s ship crash landed on thier farm, Jonathan and his wife Martha took the baby in and named him Clark, raising him as their own. They instilled in him the values that Clark embodies as Superman and are incredibly significant and fan-favourite characters in Superman comics and media.

In nearly all of his live-action appearances, Jonathan Kent died when Clark was a teenager, usually due to a heart attack, when the comics have been the opposite with both Jonathan and Martha living long after Clark has become Superman. With any luck, Jonathan will be alive and well to see Superman saving the world rather than in a flashback to Clark’s youth.

Taylor Vince is most known as a character actor who has starred in several films and TV shows, such as The Mentalist, Heroes Reborn, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., True Blood and Gotti. He will soon be seen in Apple TV+’s Lady in the Lake with Natalie Portman.

Superman tells the story of Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas. He is the embodiment of truth, justice, and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.

Superman stars David Corenswet as Superman/Clark Kent, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern/Guy Gardner, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, María Gabriela De Faría as The Engineer, Wendell Pierce as Perry White and Pruitt Taylor Vince as Jonathan Kent.
