April 22, 2024 by Andrew Newton

Private Division and Weta Workshop (known for their work on the world of Middle-earth in The Lord of the Rings films) have revealed they will be releasing their Hobbit life sim Tales of the Shire: A The Lord of the Rings Game on PC and consoles later this year. Developed by Weta Workshop Game Studio, this happy hobbit sim’ will let Tolkien fans create and unwind with their very own hobbit.  Watch the new trailer below….

In Tales of the Shire: A The Lord of the Rings Game, players are invited to Bywater, a small location of the Shire. The Bywater Festival is just around the corner and it is up to players to bring the community together and achieve official village status.

Players will create their very own hobbit and personalise them any way they want then unwind in this peaceful part of Middle-earth.  There’s plenty to be done to create the perfect home for your hobbit, settle down in your own little hobbit home and choose from a wide array of furniture and home décor to make yourself comfy.  After the inside is sorted it’s time to head out into Bywater and partake in a number of different activities, including cooking, fishing, foraging, gardening and much more.

After fulfilling the hobbit dream it’s time to develop relationships with the locals by helping them with a variety of activities, like building a garden, sharing one of the many daily meals, visiting a local shop and more.

“We’re excited to provide players with the opportunity to fulfil their fantasy of living their own humble Hobbit life in the Shire,” said Kelly Tyson, Head of Product at Wētā Workshop. “Tales of the Shirebrings a cosy new dimension to the way fans can experience Middle-earth, with plenty of wholesome, Hobbit-centric gameplay to win-over newcomers to the genre.”

“The team at Wētā Workshop is creating a brilliant representation of J.R.R. Tolkien’s beloved works that gives players the agency to create their own Hobbit experience in Middle-earth,” said Michael Worosz, Chief Strategy Officer, Take-Two Interactive, and Head of Private Division. “Players have been clamouring for a warm and inviting The Lord of the Rings game for years now, and it’s exactly what we’re delivering with Tales of the Shire.”

Enjoy the tranquil life of a hobbit in Tales of the Shire: A The Lord of the Rings Game, coming to Xbox Series X/S, Playstation 5, Nintendo Switch and PC later this year.
