Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will fly into theaters Summer 2026

May 16, 2024 by Ricky Church

James Gunn and Peter Safran have announced a release date for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, the second feature film to be produced under their DC Studios slate which will star House of the Dragon’s Milly Alcock as the Girl of Steel.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is based on the comic miniseries of the same name by writer Tom King and artist Bilquis Evely. Actress/writer Ana Nogueira (Hightown) wrote the script with Craig Gillespie (Cruella) directing. The film will fly into theatres on June 26th, 2026.

The comic series followed Supergirl on a cosmic journey as she and a young girl hunt the dangerous man who murdered the girl’s father across the galaxy while Kara comes to grips with her own trauma as one of the few Kryptonian survivors after her home planet’s destruction, living on a small chunk of it with a handful of other survivors as they drifted through space.

Alcock was cast earlier this year after Gunn and Safran auditioned several actresses for the role. Gunn has said Woman of Tomorrow will focus on the differences between Supergirl and her cousin Kal-El/Superman, saying “we see the difference between Superman who was sent to Earth and raised by loving parents from the time he was an infant, versus Supergirl who was raised on a rock, a chip off Krypton, and watched everyone around her die and be killed in terrible ways for the first 14 years of her life.”

It has been rumoured Alcock will star in another DC film, likely to be Gunn’s Superman where she will make her debut as Supergirl next year before Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is released.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will be released on June 26th, 2026.
