According to The Wrap, Keira Knightley (The Imitation Game) is in talks to star as Catherine the Great in director Barbra Streisand’s upcoming biopic of the Russian empress.
Based on a Black List script from Kristina Lauren Anderson, the film “will follow young Catherine, who was trapped in an abusive marriage with the heir of the Russian throne.”
Catherine the Great ruled the Russian empire between 1762 and 1796 following the assassination of her husband Peter III, revitalising the country and overseeing its rise to become one of the great powers of Europe.
Knightley has recently signed on to appear in Collateral Beauty alongside Will Smith, and is also set to star in a biopic of French author and Nobel Prize nominee Colette.
