Michael Fassbender to lead George Clooney’s US remake The Agency

June 25, 2024 by Ricky Church

X-Men and Alien: Covenant star Michael Fassbender has been chosen to lead George Clooney’s Paramount series The Agency, a remake of the French political drama The Bureau.

The Agency follows “Martian (Fassbender), a covert CIA agent ordered to abandon his undercover life and return to London Station. When the love he left behind reappears, romance reignites. His career, his real identity and his mission are pitted against his heart; hurling them both into a deadly game of international intrigue and espionage.”

The series will be directed by Joe Wright (Darkest Hour) with Jez Butterworth and John-Henry Butterworth writing all ten episodes. Wright, the Butterworths and Fassbender will executive produce alongside Clooney and Grant Heslove through Smokehouse Pictures. Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios and 101 Studios will produce the series.

The Bureau ran for five seasons on the French channel Canal+ and was created by Eric Rochant. The remake was originally titled The Department when it was given a straight-to-series order by Paramount, but underwent a title change.

The Agency will premiere on Paramount+ with Showtime later this year.
