New Doctor Who – The Lost Stories adventure assembles the Three Doctors

July 31, 2024 by Andrew Newton

A new audio adventure for Doctor Who is now available from Big Finish Productions and features the Three Doctors in Deathworld, a story very different from that which celebrated the series’ tenth anniversary.  Doctor Who – Lost Stories: Deathworld is part of Big Finish’s Lost Stories range, a range of adventures that take unused scripts and story ideas from the classic era of Doctor Who and turns them into full-cast audio dramas.

Doctor Who – Lost Stories: Deathworld is a two hour audio adventure adapted by John Dorney based on works from Bob Baker and Dave Martin.  Unlike The Three Doctors storyline that eventually aired, Deathworld replaces Omega and Gell guards with Death itself and the Deadly Sins as Death plays a game of chess with the President of Gallifrey using the Doctors as pawns.  Can the Doctors beat Death, an opponent more powerful than any they’ve previously encountered or ever will.

Deathworld features the voice talents of Stephen Noonan as the First Doctor, Michael Troughton as the Second and Tim Treloar as the Third.  These are joined by Frazer Hines as Jamie, Katy Manning as Jo Grant, Jon Culshaw as the marvellous Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart, Joe Shire as Death, Dianne Pilkington as the President of the Time Lords and David O’Mahony as the Deadly Sins.

Actor Michael Troughton said: “It’s always good to have three Doctors together – you get real fireworks in the dialogue! It’s such an unusual, extraordinary story as well, set in Deathworld. It’s a shame it was never put on TV, but it’s great that it’s coming out now.”

Third Doctor actor Tim Treloar added: “Michael and Stephen give wonderful interpretations of their respective Doctors. What’s lovely is remembering that juxtaposition that the Second Doctor and the Third Doctor had – that hatred of one another, but deep down they admired each other.”

Doctor Who – Lost Stories: Deathworld is available now as a collector’s edition double CD with slipcase and digital download for £15.99 or the digital download only for £12.99.  This can also be purchased in a bundle with this month’s other Lost Stories release, Operation Werewolf, for £37 as a collection edition CD and download or £31 for the download only.
