Luca Guadagnino to direct American Psycho remake

October 18, 2024 by EJ Moreno

American Psycho is back to terrify yuppies and call girls, and a prestige filmmaker is helming this new interpretation.

Deadline reports that Luca Guadagnino is in final negotiations to direct this new adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis’s controversial novel.

Scott Z. Burns (The Report, Contagion) will pen the adaptation. Per the outlet, this upcoming Lionsgate film will be produced by Frenesy Films and executive produced by Sam Pressman, the son of Edward R. Pressman, producer of the 2002 original movie, through his company Pressman Film.

The filmmaker is no stranger to adapting challenging novels. Guadagnino is fresh off his adaptation of William S. Burroughs’ Queer, and he’s possibly best known for his work bringing Call Me By Your Name to life.

As for his horror credentials, Guadagnino has proven himself a lover of horror and gore. He’s directed the witchy and wild remake of Suspiria and helmed a cannibal love story titled Bones And All. It seems like he’s more than ready to dive into the twisted world of Ellis’ American Psycho.

“We are thrilled to add another elite filmmaker to our upcoming slate,” said Lionsgate Motion Picture Group chair Adam Fogelson. “Luca is a brilliant artist and the perfect visionary to create a whole new interpretation of this potent and classic IP.”

Guadagnino has quite the film slate ahead of him; the filmmaker is currently in post on After the Hunt, starring Julia Roberts. So, stay tuned to Flickering Myth for updates on this project.
