The world teeters on the brink of disaster in Whiskey on the Rocks trailer

November 26, 2024 by Amie Cranswick

Disney+ has released a trailer for Whiskey on the Rocks, the Swedish political satire series from director Björn Stein.

Inspired by true events, the series tells the story of an 11-day standoff as the world teetered on the brink of disaster, when a Soviet submarine ran aground on rocks deep inside Swedish territorial waters in 1981.

The cast includes Rolf Lassgård, Elsa Saisio, Anders Mossling, Niklas Engdahl, Filip Berg, Adam Lundgren, Kęstutis Stasys Jakštas, and Mark Noble. Watch the trailer below…

In the early hours of October 28, 1981, a Soviet nuclear Whiskey class submarine was spotted aground inside a restricted Swedish military area. The world teetered on the brink of disaster. With global superpowers on edge, the eyes of the world turned to Sweden’s calm and collected prime minister, Thorbjörn Fälldin, a former sheep farmer, who faced the immense challenge of keeping peace between Soviet leader Leonid Brezhnev and U.S. President Ronald Reagan.

Whiskey on the Rocks premieres on Disney+ on January 22nd.
