Archer Maclean’s DropZone returns with 40th Anniversary Edition landing this December

November 27, 2024 by Andrew Newton

Get ready to celebrate 40 years of the classic Atari 800/ Commodore 64 game Dropzone as System 3 Software announce that Archer Maclean’s Dropzone – 40th Anniversary Edition will be coming to Xbox Series X/S, Playstation 5, Nintendo Switch and Steam this December.  Watch the new gameplay trailer below…

Back in 1984, Archer Maclean managed to get his hands on an Atari 800 and went on to create the hit game Dropzone in 1984, this talented chap then went on to program the game for the Commodore 64 as well and that’s when the game really captured the attention of gamers.  This December, players will be able to experience the adrenaline-fueled gameplay for themselves on a new generation of hardware.

Dropzone takes players to Jupiter’s moon, Io, to defend the valuable Ionian crystal mines from the dreaded aliens.  Fend off the Planters, explosive Nemesites and the Nmeye while rescuing the survivors and retrieving the crystals.

Archer Maclean’s Dropzone – 40th Anniversary Edition brings the classic gameplay and combines this with modern enhancements, including:

  • Switch between HD visuals and 8-bit style graphics.
  • Optimised precision for controllers, and for those wanting a pang of nostalgia, keyboard controls are still supported.
  • Original retro mode with authentic graphics and sound.

Celebrate the 40th anniversary of a classic game this December with Archer Maclean’s Dropzone – 40th Anniversary Edition.
