Jason Momoa is Lobo for DC Studios’ Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow

December 30, 2024 by EJ Moreno

Jason Momoa has wrapped his time as Aquaman but is not ready to leave DC as his home. Now, the actor will jump into the semi-rebooted era of James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DC Studios as an entirely new character.

It was announced that Momoa will star as Lobo in the upcoming film Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. The actor confirmed the news in a newly released post on social media.

Referencing an older interview, the actor posts a quote saying, “I collect comics, and I don’t do so much anymore, but it was always my favorite, and I always wanted to play Lobo because I’m like, ‘Hello? It’s the perfect role.'” He’d add that should DC come around asking him to play Lobo, it would be “a fuck yeah.” Alongside the Instagram screenshot, Momoa posted a caption this morning: “They called.”

Momoa will join Milly Alcock, who will star as the titular Supergirl. Matthias Schoenaerts joins them as villain Krem of the Yellow Hill and Eve Ridley in the part of Ruthye Mary Knolle.

Lobo was first introduced in Omega Men #3 in June 1983. He is an intergalactic bounty hunter, mercenary, and self-proclaimed “last of the Czarnian race.” With a taste for chaos and destruction, Momoa will bring out a lot with this irreverent role. The character most famously appeared in multiple comic series, including Lobo (1993), and had minor roles in animated series like Superman: The Animated Series and The New Batman Adventures. He also appeared in DLC character in Injustice: Gods Among Us (2013).

Craig Gillespie will direct from a script by Ana Nogueira. The project is based on Tom King’s 2022 comic book series Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. Production kicks off on January 13th, and Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is set to hit cinemas on June 26th, 2026.
